Talking about Themes

January23

We recently finished reading A Baby Sister For Frances, by Russell Hoban. After analyzing the story the students got in pairs and attempted to come up with the theme of the story.  We used the white boards so that the students could erase and change their sentences as their thinking evolved.

Once the students were happy with their theme statement they transferred it to a sentence strip to share with the class.

We posted the statements and the next day we discussed the similarities and differences.
